The 3-day Acid Reflux Diet
Article by Shalini Kagal
No, this is not a cure, not some quick-fix solution, not a miraculous end to a burning issue. What it does however, is to get the problem down to manageable levels so that you can then formulate a change in lifestyle and diet in order to live a GERD-free life. Yes, that’s Gastroesophageal reflux disease or the medical term for acid reflux.
With a name like that, you would imagine that it is a condition that only strikes the nerds of this world – the ones who sit around on their PCs or hunched over their laptops for hours on end. Unfortunately, acid reflux is no respecter of persons. An infant can suffer from it as can a fairly active healthy grown up. The reasons are probably too numerous to enumerate. From an immature digestive system in a baby to late nights and stress, pregnancy, certain foods, lack of exercise, whatever.

The New Acid Reflux Diet
Article by Dee Robertson
The constant pain of acid reflux can be overwhelming. The continued burning of stomach acid is not only painful but dangerous as it can cause Barrett’s Esophagitis which may be a precurser to cancer. Also the constant use of drugs that only offer temporary relief can lead to very serious health problems. The most common drugs being used for GERD are designed to be used on a temporary basis but millions of people take them daily without any knowledge of the consequences. There are many medications and while they provide temporary relief they also cause the potential for dangerous side effects. You run the risk of altering the body’s biochemistry either by reducing stomach acid or neutralizing it. Since stomach acid is needed for the digestion of food you are altering this process which will likely cause more digestive problems. Unfortunately that is the least harmful problem with continued use of these drugs you may very likely be putting your life at risk.
There may be other causes such as hiatal hernia, ulcer disease and gastritis. These conditions may increase abdominal pressure or cause the esophageal sphincter to inappropriately relax allowing the stomach contents to back up. There is a much easier and healthier way to gain relief from acid reflux pain. The best way to obtain permanent relief from acid reflux is by using treatments that let the body’s natural balance remain in effect. Such as the proper diet and by learning what foods to eat and what foods to avoid.
