acid reflux remedies: myth or truth?
Question by : acid reflux remedies: myth or truth?
Please tell me if the following are healthy to drink…
lemon juice- supposedly, it is ACIDIC outside of the body, BUT ALKALINE inside the body, therefore making it ok for an acid reflux sufferer to drink?
apple cider- last time I checked, this is carbonated, which will make acid reflux worse. Why is it that they say apple cider will help?
green tea- I’m pretty sure this is akaline…right?
Thanks.

The first two are acidic and you want to neitralize it so green tea is OK or a handful of baking soda would do the trick too.

Apple cider is not carbonated, unless you get it sparkling. I have acid reflux pretty bad myself. My suggestion is that you just try each one separately and see which works and which doesn’t. Green tea is good for you anyway, and yes, it’s safe to drink lemon juice. I’d only go with a teaspoon though.
none of that will work. first 2 are acids and green tea will do little
lemon juice- supposedly, it is ACIDIC outside of the body, BUT ALKALINE inside the body –> Actually, this is somewhat true (albeit simplified) — the citrate is metabolized to bicarbonate. However, in acid reflux, it’s the acidity of the stomach contents we’re focused on, not the blood. Remember that the GI tract is “outside” the body….hence lemon juice will not help acid reflux.
Why is it that they say apple cider will help? —> “They” don’t have any evidence and no logical reasoning to support the idea. Not likely to provide any benefit.
green tea —> Actually, a Japanese study found that green tea was one of many factors associated with acid reflux…. Certainly it is reasonable to wonder whether green tea is a causative factor (which the study design is not able to tease out) or simply being used by individuals suffering from acid reflux (and thus would be expected to be used more frequently than non-acid reflux sufferers). Interesting findings nonetheless.
Many prescription and nonprescription medications have proven efficacy and safety data and years of experience in millions of patients. Just a thought….
Lemon juice is acidic as well as apple cider… and these only help people with an acid deficiency.
Green tea is good but watch for the amount of caffeine as that can also trigger reflux.
