Foods with acid and citrus like lemons, oranges, some juices, etc.
Foods that are saucy like spaghetti and pizzas, etc.
And alcohol
There is a muscle at the bottom of the esophagus (top of the stomach) that is usually tightly constricted, preventing stomach acid from going up into the esophagus/throat. It’s called the LES (lower esophageal sphincter). Certain foods will relax this muscle and make it easier for acid to travel upwards, they are:
FATTY FOODS (fried food/hamburgers/hot dogs/french fries/etc.)
chocolate (this one should really be avoided)
spinach
milk
citrus fruits (tomatoes, oranges, etc. —> these directly increase stomach acid)
caffeine
Foods high in protein close the LES and DECREASE reflux symptoms so they might be a good thing to increase in your diet.
avoid spicey foods if you can also becare not to drink juices with to much acid(lime, lemon and gratefruit in them
I use (1) Prilosec OTC daily…and eat EVERYTHING…..
My condition has and will exist forever……so I eat what I want this way.
Originally, they will tell U to eliminate spicy foods, coffee, cola’s, don’t eat after a certain time of day…on and on….elevating the head of your bed…….for me, it was all complete..NONSENSE.
There is a list of foods that trigger acid reflux here http://acid-reflux-diet-help.blogspot.com/2009/04/foods-that-trigger-acid-reflux.html
