DON’T LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING TO SAY “BAKING SODA”. Using baking soda for heartburn is very dangerous.
Milk works good to ease the discomfort, also sipping on water helps. Also try eating ice cubes.
Apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon in 8 oz of water, twice a day. I discovered this on Yahoo Answers 3 months ago and it has stopped my heartburn.
I recommend buying Bragg brand since it is going into the body. Store brands are cheaper, but I’m not sure I would trust them for internal use. Bragg ACV can be purchased at health food stores.
Try it; it really works!! It took a while to get used to the taste, but I’d rather have the taste than the heartburn!!
DGL (chewable OR capsules), a natural, safe product available in vitamin or health food stores.
I take one cap in AM and one in PM. I have acid refux/GERD, along with a hiatal hernia. Bottom line is mine was unmanageable without meds. DGL really works!
I used to take Prilosec OTC (prescribed by a GI doc) and weaned myself off since it suppresses acid production. The acid is needed for digestion and this drug doesn’t allow absorbtion of vital nutrients and vitamins, long term effects are unknown.
NOTE: They say the chewable works faster, but I use a capsule taken with water.
Try chewing licorice before meals and at bedtime. Also your diet, chocolate, acidic beverages, carbonated drinks and alcohol can cause heartburn.
Taking vinegar for acid reflux is moronic. You must determine the root cause of your problem. It can be a weak Lower esophageal sphinctor muscle, very common. Or it can be a hiatal hernia. A barium swallow x-ray can see a hernia. If you choose not to be examined then follow the very logical rules for controlling reflux. First is weight, weight loss greatly helps this and I can attest to this. Second are the foods you are eating, stay away from acid foods like vinegar, salsa, tomatos, orange juice… coffee and more. Do not wear tight fitting pants that squeeze your abdomen, do not eat 2hrs prior to bed. Short of this go to a doctor if it does not help. You can also take natural prilosec.
eat some bananas!!!
Slippery Elm capsules — can be purchased at health food stores.
Short term – You can use 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of honey in an 8 oz. glass of water. This will turn your stomach contents from acid to alkaline and will stop the acid reflux.
Long term – You need to change your diet. Diets high in fat and sugars will cause acid reflux. You need to find fats like Sesame oil and corn oil that are monosaturated and are easily digestible in the human body. Sugar tastes good, but it’s not really good for you. When we talk about what we do with carbs, calories or sugar, we talk about it burning. That in itself should tell you something about the nature of refined sugars and what they do to the body. If you want something sweet, eat fruit, but eat it sparingly. In the long run, a diet change will help your body to heal itself and you won’t have problems with acid reflux anymore.
By the way, you can also get a bottle of chlorophyll from your nearest health food store. It will settle your stomach and also turn your body from acid to alkaline. I use both, but apple cider vinegar is so much cheaper and it works great!
Hope this helps. Best of luck.
Natural options that may help reduce GERD include deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL), which may bring fast relief and help heal damaged lining. Aloe Vera juice may also act quickly to bring relief. For those with chronic problems, Gamma-oryzanol (rice bran oil) may be useful, as could choline, pantothenic acid, and thiamin. These natural solutions may provide more effective short-term relief as well as provide long-term dietary benefits.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon has many medicinal uses aside from being great for various pastries. It has an antiseptic effect and has been historically used for colds and flus. It has fighting power against Candida albicans and has the ability to settle acidic stomachs.
Here’s how to use cinnamon for an acid stomach or heartburn:
* Toast raisin bread
* Butter the raisin bread
* Sprinkle cinnamon on the bread
* Sprinkle cardamon on the bread
When you eat this toasted bread, chew slowly and completely before swallowing to allow the digestive juices in your mouth to start breaking down this food.
Cardamoms:
Cardamom, which is found in India, has been used successfully in treating Celiac disease, which is an intolerance to gluten found in most breads.
Grapefruit Skins
Here is a way to settle your acid reflux stomach with grapefruit. Use only organic grapefruit for this remedy. Heres what to do:
* Grate the entire outer skin of an organic grapefruit
* Spread them out on a flat dish to dry
* Allow them to get crinkly dry
* Store them in a glass jar or zip lock bag
Whenever you get an upset stomach, acid reflux or heartburn start chewing and eating these strips of dried grapefruit. These strips will settle out your stomach. Eat only a few of them and test to see how many you need.
Romaine Lettuce
Romaine lettuce can be used to eliminate an acid reflux or heartburn condition. This lettuce is high in minerals and is highly alkaline.
Heres what you need to do:
* Buy an organic romaine lettuce head
* Wash in distilled water
* Cut up the leaves and place them in a blender
* Add cold distilled water to make a slurry
* Add a slight amount of honey to give it taste
Drink a 4-8 oz to get relief from your acid reflux or acid stomach.
Mace, Nutmeg, and Slippery Elm
Here is a natural remedy that uses mace and nutmeg, which has a history of treating indigestion, acid stomach, heartburn, acid reflux, stomach gas, and vomiting.
Here’s how to use it with half and half and slippery elm root herb. Slippery elm herb can be purchase in any herb store in powder.
* 1 teaspoon of slippery elm bark
* a pinch of nutmeg
* a pinch of mace
* add distilled water to make a smooth slurry
* heat a pint of half and half to boil
* pull half and half from stove and add herb slurry
* stir in herb slurry
Allow this mixture to cool. Drink up to cup at a time. Store the unused portion in the refrigerator. When drinking the next cup, warm this mixture up.
Acid reflux and heartburn require alkaline nutrients to provide relief. These 4 natural remedies, when prepared properly, will give you the relief you need from these conditions. Try them; you will be surprised on how well they work
I used Baking Soda as a short term cure.
To finally get rid of it I used mastic gum.
Life enhancement makes a product called Bye-lori and it has mastic gum. Mastic gum kills H. Pylori which has been linked to heart burn and stomach ulcers. Studies have been done on the effectiveness of mastic gum on H. Pylori.
It worked for me.
Also heart burn can cause mild acidosis. Buy Calcium supplements. Preferably ones with magnesium and vitamin D, which are needed for your body to absorb the calcium. I find if I chew the calcium tablets some, it helps.
Hope that helps.
You can reduce the severity and frequency of your attacks through proper food selection. You need to eat foods that are more alkaline based. Hence foods that are acidic such as oranges, red meats, processed foods, fried foods are out. Replace with more green vegetables, fish, watermelon, etc.
Well, I just know that chewing dried papaya (or enzyme tablets) seems to help my digestion tremendously. And definitely cut-out any carbonation! Take care, ~N
If we offered you a miracle remedy that cures and prevents “Gastritis” would you buy it? Certainly you would. You won’t find it in a Pharmacy but at the Grocery Store.
Try the Natural Cures for Gastritis.
Gastritis is an inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It is a troublesome condition which may lead to many complications including ulcers if not treated in time. Constipation aggravates the condition more than any other disorder.
The inflammatory lesions may be either acute erosive gastritis or chronic atrophic gastritis. The latter type has been found to be present in half the patients suffering from severe iron deficiency anaemia.
Symptoms: The main symptoms of gastritis are loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, headache and dizziness. There is also pain and a feeling of discomfort in the region of the stomach. In more chronic cases, there is a feeling of fullness in the abdomen, especially after meals. The patient complains of heartburn. Prolonged illness often results in the loss of weight, anaemia and occasional haemorrhage from the stomach. There may be an outpouring of mucus and a reduction in the secretion of hydrochloric acid during acute attacks and also in most cases of chronic gastritis.
Causes: The most frequent cause of gastritis is a dietetic indiscretion such as habitual overeating, eating of badly combined or improperly cooked foods, excessive intake of strong tea, coffee or alcoholic drinks, habitual use of large quantities of condiments, sauces, etc. It may sometimes follow certain diseases such as measles, diphtheria, influenza, virus pneumonia, etc. Most often it also results from worry, anxiety, grief and prolonged tension. Use of certain drugs, strong acids, and caustic substances may also give rise to gastritis.
Treatment: The patient should undertake a fast in both acute and chronic cases of gastritis. In acute cases, the patient will usually recover after a short fast of two or three days. In chronic condition, the fast may have to be continued for a longer period of seven days or so. In the alternative, short fasts may be repeated at an interval of one or two months, depending on the progress being made.
The fast may be conducted on fruit juices. By fasting, the intake of irritants is at once effectively stopped, the stomach is rested and the toxic condition, causing the inflammation, is allowed to subside. Elimination is increased by fasting and the excess of toxic matter accumulated in the system is thrown out.
After the acute symptoms subside, the patient should adopt an all-fruit diet for further three days. Juicy fruits such as apple, pear, grapes, grapefruit, orange, pineapple, peach and melon may be taken during this period at five-hourly intervals. The patient can thereafter gradually embark upon a well-balanced diet of three basic food groups, namely: (i) seeds, nuts and grains, (ii) vegetables, and (iii) fruits on the following lines :
Upon arising: A glass of lukewarm water with freshly squeezed lemon and spoonful of honey.
Breakfast: Fresh fruits, such as apples, orange, banana, grapes, grapefruit or any available berries, a handful of raw nuts and a glass of milk.
Mid-morning snack: One apple, banana, or any other fruit.
Lunch : Steamed vegetables, two or three slices of whole meal bread or whole wheat chappatis, according to the appetite and a glass of butter milk.
Mid-afternoon: A glass of fresh fruit or vegetable juice or sugarcane juice.
Dinner: A large bowl of fresh salad of green vegetables such as tomatoes, carrots, red beets, cabbage, cucumber with dressing of lemon juice and cold-pressed vegetable oil, all available sprouts such as alfalfa seeds mung beans, fresh butter and fresh home-made cottage cheese.
Bedtime snacks: A glass of fresh milk or one apple.
The patient should avoid the use of alcohol, nicotine, spices, and condiments, flesh foods, chillies, sour things, pickles, strong tea and coffee. He should also avoid sweets, pastries, rich cakes and aerated waters. Curds and cottage cheese should be used freely. Carrot juice in combination with the juice of spinach is considered highly beneficial in the treatment of gastritis. 200 mL of spinach juice should be mixed with 300 ml. of carrot juice in this combination. Too many different foods should not be mixed at the same meal. Meals should be taken at least two hours before going to bed at night. 8 to 10 glasses of water should be taken daily, but water should not be taken with meals as it dilutes the digestive juices and delays digestion. And above all, haste should be avoided while eating and meals should be served in a pleasing and relaxed atmosphere.
Coconut water is an excellent food remedy for gastritis. It gives the stomach necessary rest and provides vitamins and minerals. The stomach will be greatly helped in returning to its normal condition if nothing except coconut water is given during the first 24 hours. Rice gruel is another effective remedy in acute cases of gastritis. In chronic cases where the flow of gastric juice is meager, such foods as require prolonged vigorous mastication will be beneficial as this induces a greater flow of gastric juices.
From the commencement of the treatment, a warm water enema should be used daily, for about a week, to cleanse the bowels. If constipation is habitual, all steps should be taken for its eradication. The patient should be given daily a dry friction and sponge bath. Application of heat, through hot compressor or hot water bottle twice in the day either on an empty stomach or two hours after meals should also prove beneficial.
The patient should not undertake any hard physical and mental work. He should, however, undertake breathing and other light exercises like walking, swimming, and golf. He should avoid worries and mental tension.
Hope this helps, Good Luck.

MonaVie juice helps some people. I personally know several persons who have gotten relief from this all natural juice product.
There is a product called Acid Ease that contains licorice etc. that may help. But you need to address the reasons you have reflux. Do you eat or drink dairy? Chew your food properly? Have you noticed that there are any foods that trigger it? Do you constantly replenish your gut flora (plain (no sugar) soy yogurt (if dairy does bother you), kombucha tea or sauerkraut/kimchee (if your tummy can take them) all have beneficial bacteria).
I’m not a doctor, but eating plain white bread just after it starts helps settle the stomach and clears the passage way. 1/2 hour later, I drink some ginger tea to settle my stomach. Some people have success with milk, but it never worked for me.
