Calcium causes me Acid Reflux?
Hello.
When I eat foods high in calcium I get acid reflux so I stopped eating these foods and now I decided to take Calcium Supplements but still have the same problem. I’d like to know which type of calcium supplements I should take. I see that there are calcium citrate, carbonate and a bunch of others,, some of them even contain SOY, which perhaps that can be my problem? What do you guys recommend me? thank you very much.

For immediate relief chew tums. For longer relief take Zantac which can be purchased a a generic now.
You might be potassium deficient.
Hi Jason- Are you sure it is Acid Reflux? And what are you doing to treat it? You can buy Zantac over the counter this is helpful if your acid reflux isn’t too severe. Calcium can be hard for the body to break down, so it remains in the stomach longer and can cause problems. I was told to take a calcium supplement that contains magnesium this helps the body to break it down faster, then the body can better absorb it. Often people can’t tolerate calcium because they are lactose intolerant, can you drink milk without the reflux? Have you tried Lactaid or a similar product to see if that could help with the reflux? Often Soy milk is a good substitute for those who can’t tolerate milk. It is high in protein and does contain calcium and quite often is better tolerated then dairy. I would try switching to soy milk or Lactaid. I would also raise the head of your bed. This way the acid cannot come back up your throat. This can easily be done by placing cement blocks at the head of your bed under the bed frame. This makes the head of your bed about 3-4 inches higher then your feet and really helps. You can find the cement blocks at any home improvement store like Home Depot or Loews. They are only about a dollar a piece. If none of this helps see your doctor. Good Luck!
