Is Somac (40 mg) an antibiotic? And can you drink alcohol whilst on it?
It is used for acid reflux.
Thank-you.

I’m 22, male an I have acid reflux, an i take over the counter acid reducers for it almost daily. Alcohol and pot seem to worsen it and i sometimes throw up. I drink about once a week sometimes just once every 2 weeks an i smoke pot daily. I know its ok to smoke pot while taking it, because I’ve been doing it for the past 3 months an it doesn’t seem to bother me. But can i drink while taking it? An will it effectively work if i drink? I usually only drink about 8-10 beers within like a 3 or 4 hour period.
EDIT, i ment alcohol and pot TOGETHER seem to worsten it.
I have a question showing how salicylic acid is made. And asking what would happen on the first step, if the methyl salicylate was hydrolised ( using NaOH cataylst) but it NOT being under reflux.
Under reflux, the products made are sodium salycylate and an alcohol.
whenever i drink alcohol, even beer my stomach burns a little only for like 5 seconds after i sip, and its not a bad pain just a little burn kind of.. i do have acid reflux and i am on medicine for it.. is it just acid reflux thats causing this?
I was diagnosed with Acid Reflux disease 15 years ago. I have been on an acid blocker (prevacid) and some others over the years. The condition has slowly worsened. About 5 years ago, I started feeling constant nausea that literally lasted one year. The constant nausea tapered off after that and since then, it comes and goes throughout the day and evening. I still take Prevacid everyday for the acid reflux.
My doctor sent me to a gastroenterologist (stomach specialist) and they ran a scope with a camera into my stomach. They said the bottom of my stomach looked red and irritated and that was all they found. They did not believe it was contributing to my nausea. Nothing further was done. I have been living with this nausea that comes and goes ever since. I am not sure what to do anymore. I am writing this because I am just getting tired of it.
I have been taking Prilosec OTC (Proton Pump Inhibitors) for a year and 4 months to treat symptoms of acid reflux. I ingest one (1) 20mg dose daily to treat symptoms including sore throat and burning sensation in throat. Over the last few weeks, I have been encountering additional symptoms that include chronic cough, throat irritation, and Laryngospasm (feeling like one can’t catch one’s breath), and Continual Throat Clearing. I have researched these symptoms and concluded that I may have laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). Do to this I have a series of question to ask below for assistance:
•Are there any long term effects of taking Prilosec OTC? I have researched and discovered they may cause osteoporosis in the future. I take calcium citrate to attempt to offset signs of osteoporosis. Is this the correct thing to do? Is there any other long term effects? (i.e.cancer etc.)
•Are there any home remedies (things I can do) to completely cure Acid reflux and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR)? Currently I am unemployed and do not have any medical insurance so if there is anything I can do at home or buy over the counter to relieve this it would be a great help.
•Would this problem require me to have any type of surgery if left untreated for an extended period of time? (can this be fixed without surgery) How long would this have to linger to force surgery?
•I have not been having a great diet I eat what I want and drink alcohol (once a week) so this might be the root of all this but over time I don’t want to get really sick from this.
•Is acid reflux common?
•Anything else you can tell me to prevent this from getting serious or requiring surgery.
Thank you for your time.
Can it make people more likely to throw up when drinking alcohol?
Also, can it reduce alcohol tolerance?
Don’t tell me not to because I know I shouldn’t. I only drink on occasion at the big parties but I get sick every time I try. I take 2 Zantac’s before i drink and I still feel sick and usually have to go puke it up. Should I take one before and then another midway through? I’ve tried eating bread and other absorbants before as well as drinking other drinks with alcohol. Please help me I hate being the only not drinking. Don’t tell me to just not drink. That’s not helpful.
I’ve had acid reflux since I was 9. I am now 17 and I occasionally drink 5 or 6 beers at a party usually once or twice a month. I understand I shouldn’t be drinking because I’m too young and because I have acid reflux but I would like to be able to party with my friends once a month. Drinking alcohol once a month won’t kill me. I’ve tried taking a zantac before it helps a little bit but not enough. I heard a mixture of baking soda and water before drinking could help but I haven’t tried it. If anyone has any ideas please help. I don’t feel the NEED to drink I just enjoy drinking and hanging out with friends but my acid reflux usually stops me. I usually have to either go puke or I feel like crap the whole night. (If you’re going to tell me to not drink without offering any advice don’t even bother posting.)
I’ve gotten crazy drunk before off of vodka as well and I have much less heartburn from mixed drinks. I can’t be allergic to beer because I’ve easily drank 7-8 beers in a night without getting sick. Typically though I’ll drink 2 beers, feel a lot of heartburn and puke.
