Detailed Info The Truth About Acid Reflux In Children
Article by verasensing
Heartburn gas and bloating- these are all common symptoms of gastrointestinal reflux also known as acid and reflux. If the cause of acid and reflux is physiological from an over-production of stomach acid PPI drugs may be effective. As it turns out only a very small percent of patients seen for acid and reflux are actually producing too much stomach acid.Although there are many over the counter and prescription medicines available for heartburn relief natural remedies for heartburn may be just as effective and cause fewer side effects. Most people experience heartburn occasionally even those who have a healthy diet and stress-free lifestyle.
Still have the holiday hangover? It pays to be thankful if that’s all you’ve got. For many Americans the holiday season is not a time for gift-giving and feasting on all those sumptuous food. Question by Erick: Help! 7 Weeks and Dr states Baby has reflux and change formula.?
Our boy was doing good on Enfamil new born. He was drinking 3-4 oz per feeding; when we went to the Dr office for the our child 1 month check up. She asked us? how was everything going…. So we told her exactly what we have seen in a matter of a month. Which was? At times the baby gets fuzzy and that sometimes he arcs his back after feeding . And automatically? She said! Acid reflux. Ok! So we roll with it and we started on his medication she prescribe to us (nizatidine) and also told us to bring in to the office 3 Poppy diapers. Which we did… And when she called us with the results she stated that she found traces of blood in his poop that means that he allergic to the cow protein which she states that is totally normal. So not only? the Dr give us meds for his acid reflux for our child she also made us change his formula to Enfamil Lipil Nutramigen with Enflora.
4 Days in, and the baby was allot more fussy and was crying like if something was killing him and was only drinking 2 ½ oz no more. It wasn’t your normal crying it was something totally different so we knew something was wrong. It mostly happen when he was trying to take a poop and the way he cries it sounds like it was burning him. This all started when we started to give him the formula she advise to put him on. So we had to make a decision and we went to Similac Sensitive because we did not want to feed him anymore of the formula the Dr order us to put him in.

Curing Acid Reflux in Children and Infants
The spitting up and throwing up of food particles is a common thing that every mother must be accustomed to. Acid reflux is a condition wherein the lower esophageal sphincter fails to function properly. Under the normal circumstances , the lower esophageal sphincter , which acts like a valve between the esophagus and the stomach , closes tightly after allowing the food into the stomach. Thus , under no circumstances can the food re-enter the esophagus. Acid reflux is caused when the lower esophageal sphincter is not able to prevent the backflow of the acidic stomach content into the esophagus. The acidic content causes irritation in the esophagus and this is termed as acid reflux.
One of the main reasons for acid reflux in infants and children is that the digestion system is not developed and hence it leads to occurrence of acid reflux. Hence it is recommended not to overfeed infants. Normally, doctor’s advice should be sought before deciding upon the feeding quantity. For infants and children suffering from acid reflux, it is recommended that the feeding quantity should be reduced corresponding with an increase in the frequency of the feeding. One can also try to change the schedule of feeding the infant. Again the doctor should be consulted before changing the schedule. Both these suggestions can be useful to control acidity.

I have a 3 1/2 month old that has acid reflux. His spitting up has gotten much worse in the last week. I have been to the Doctor and they just tell me that “babies spit up,” I would be ok with that diagnosis if my normally happy, smiley baby weren’t so miserable, arching his back and grunting while taking a bottle. We have started probiotics in hopes that something more natural will calm the stomach. He has now spit up bright yellow a couple of times and I am concerned, does anyone have any suggestions? The Dr. gave up a prescription for Prevacid which is not approved in children under the age of one and not recomended by our pharmasists? I am at a loss but not willing to settle on him being so uncomfortable. Thanks ahead of time for any advice!

Why are there 4 different medications used for reflux in infants?
If medication is needed, treatment will often start with a class of medications called H2-blockers, also called H2-receptor agonists. These drugs help keep acid from backing up into the esophagus. H2-blockers are often used to treat children with GER because they come in liquid form. H2-blockers include
cimetidine (Tagamet)
ranitidine (Zantac)
famotidine (Pepcid)
nizatidine (Axid)

Ms. Simpson lip synced her song on live television when she was badly affected by acid reflux condition that affected her vocal cords very badly. Acid reflux was not compared with Ashlee Simpson when she first became a star. But acid reflux and Ashlee became hot topics after her disastrous Saturday night performance in October 2004. Disappointed fans complained that it is not true. They questioned how come a young person like Simpson who is only 20 years of age can suffer this bad due to acid reflux. This questioning brought many famous physicians to debate and it has been concluded that a person as young as 20 years of age can also suffer badly from acid reflux and may get the same effect of their adult counterparts.
