could my 2 yr old daughter have acid reflux?
my daughter turned 2 just yesterday and i have noticed for a wile now that she has been throwing up for no reason.I always thought she would grow out of it as a baby since she was a baby that spit up alot. she also turns away things to eat even though i know she is hungry, and she is always kinda cranky. She also gets these really hard hiccups mixed with a hard burp, they also seem to hurt her.
She constantly is sucking down drinks like its the last one she will ever get.
Last week i took her to the Dr’s for a check up and i wanted to tell her dr about it but it totally slipped my mind since i was so caught up in talking about her speech delay issues. It took me a few days to realize that this was not normal. After talking to a few other moms they also think it could be reflux. I called this morning and her dr wants to see her first thing in the morning.
Am i wasting the Dr’s time or is this something more? what do you think? Any one else have a child with reflux?
I have 2 other kids and i have never been anything like this. what should I expect? Could this a cause to her speech delay also? she has a evaluation on wednesday to see if she will need early intervention services.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
jules: i think your right..my daughter is 2 now and still has not even said momma or daddy..not a word. i cant wait to find out how her evaluation turns out also. If it is something i just hope we can figure it tomorrow

Definitely good that you’re seeing the doctor. My son had reflux when he was an infant, but he outgrew it around 6 months so I don’t know what it would look like in a 2 year old. Definitely get her checked out. Good luck!
Yes – totally possible! I baby-sat for my favorite little 3 yr old today for the first time in a few months. Her mom told me that she has to take new meds because she was finally diagnosed with acid reflux. Basically she had this chronic cough for about a year, and everyone thought she was just doing it for attention, since her sister (1 yr older) gets sick a lot, and gets lots of attention when she does. But then they realized she was having complete ear, nose, and throat problems, and at age 2.5 already had this hoarse little voice, so they took her to get a second opinion. It turns out she has acid reflux, so they are keeping her away from acidic foods, and have her on meds. She sounded so much better today, I don’t think she coughed one time, and has quieted down a lot since she no longer has to scream to hear her voice.
I’d get her checked out! And yes, I think it can cause a speech delay, because the little girl I’m talking about also is not speaking as much, and is not as fluent as her sister was at her age.
Good luck, and hopefully she’ll do great since you’re catching it earlier!
My daughter has this, and I think you are on track. Go and see the doctor – it’s not a waste of time.
