Yes, acid reflux can cause substernal pain which may cause you to believe you are having a heart attack. Just make sure that you have a physical exam to rule out any heart problems.
YES! But its not actually your heart hurting, its your esophagus. Its a transmuted pain (meaning that the pain originates from one place, but feels like its from another place.) It sounds like the lining of your esophagus is infected or damaged. You need an acid reducer. Some you can get OTC, and if they aren’t strong enough, you get a prescription. Drink plenty of water to clean the damaged or infected lining. AND call the doc first thing Tuesday morning.
Pain will sometimes occur in the upper chest, either right or left side between stomach and throat area. Sometimes sharp pain and will last from a minute to several minutes. The nerves within the esophagus becomes irritated and it causes a pain similar to what you think a heart attack would feel like. There are meds such as zantac, pepsid a/c, nexium, that work. Pepsid a/c works well for me. 1 tablet daily helps mine a lot.
Acid reflux is just the liquid that your stomach uses to break down food. Sometimes if You lay a certain way it goes up into your esophagus and can cause alot of discomfort , like chest pain, being short of breath and severe burning in your chest. That may be a reason why your chest may hurt. You should see a doctor, you might have a condition called GERD.
Yes acid reflux can cause chest pain,
BUT ***** if you’re having chest pain you need to get checked at an emergency room, could be something much more serious — not worth taking chances over.
Everyone here agrees that it can be pain from GERD. I’ve felt these attacks, and will testify to the severity of the pain and the fear I had. HOWEVER, even though this sounds like it could be acid reflux, none of us know if you’ve been diagnosed with that condition. If there is ANY chance that it could be something more serious, please consider a visit to the doctor right away. Heart attack patients have been known to justify their pains as acid reflux when they were more serious, not realizing the similarities.
Of course! it is the cause for HEARTBURN.
Yes, acid reflux can cause what feels like heart or chest pain.
Typical acid reflux symptoms include burning or stabbing pain behind the breastbone, burping, gassiness and bloating.
You quite often have an unpleasant taste in your mouth and symptoms are usually worse after a large meal, drinking alcohol or caffeinated drinks or smoking. Lying down will also often make symptoms feel worse.
On the other hand typical heart pain not related to acid reflux can feel like tightness or heaviness in the chest or it can feel like your chest is being squeezed. The pain can spread to your shoulders, arms, neck or jaw. You may also break out into a sweat and have trouble breathing.
If you feel that you are experiencing heart pain that isn’t related to acid reflux then you should seek medical attention immediately. People have suffered serious complications by not getting the appropriate medical attention because they thought their chest pain was acid reflux. Better to get yourself checked out.
If it is acid reflux then there are a number of self-help steps you can take to reduce the symptoms or there are also OTC and prescription medications designed to ease symptoms.
I don’t know if acid reflux will cause your heart to hurt but I do know that gastric gas will definitely cause you to think your heart is hurting. The pressure from the gas can be quite severe and can mimic a heart attack. The main difference is that pain from gas will usually go away if you take an antacid but pain from a heart attack will not go away.
acid reflux pain is pain having to do with the stomach and esophagus….it is many times called heartburn only due to the location on the body the pain is felt…it has nothing to do with your heart…
pain in your chest could be heart related or stomach related. Only a doctor can order the tests required to tell the difference. Many times heart pain, angina, heart attacks, are ignored by people because they think it is only a type of stomach pain…big mistake. true heart pain /problems are much more serious and possibly fatal is ignored. Call your MD about your symptoms now…
Definitely, one of the main symptoms of acid reflux is the permanent heartburn. This is a burning sensation in your chest (right behind your breastbone) but actually has nothing to do with your heart, so don’t worry. In my personal experience, in the early stages you can cure acid reflux by adhering to a strict acid reflux diet.
