How often do newborns sleep? Should I worry about him sleeping too much?
I know with my first child he was extremely fussy from Acid reflux and cried a lot. With our second child, he just sleeps and when he is awake, he is as quiet as can be. He sleeps all day and night except for about 3-4 hours. He usually is awake in the morning for about 2 hours and in the evening about 1-2 hours. He wakes to eat every 3 hours. Is he sleeping too much? He is just so different from our first. Thanks!

Yes a baby can sleep too much but that depends on the child.
Other than sleeping keep your eyes out for:
~His Cries: Are they loud and powerful or quiet and weak?
Weak cries are signs that he doesn’t have the strength to cry out the way he should and that could mean he’s not waking to eat often enough. Some quieter crying is ok but if it’s all the time check with a doctor.
~His Weight: Is he gaining the way he should be?
This again ties into not waking often enough to eat properly. If he isn’t gaining weight properly or is losing weight (after the first few days) then see a doctor.
Both of my babies were sleepers. They would wake up once in the night maybe twice tops when they first came home and they’d fall right back asleep. You baby sounds like he’s healthy, just more of a sleeper than his brother.
I remember back about 4 months ago I was asking the same thing…what I would give for those naps again lol ( =
As long as he is waking up to eat and having enough wet and poopy diapers I would say ENJOY IT and take advantage of the free time to play with your older child. It won’t last! All of a sudden my baby went from long naps down to 20-30 minute naps. I thought something was wrong but it was just normal. Now he’s back to 1+ hour naps but only twice a day.
Congrats and enjoy!
ps – my boy was also super quiet and I thought he was going to just be a quiet baby. Nope – at 3 months he found his voice and now he “talks” all the time! Right now everything is “Aaahh”
