I am really desperate for a heartburn remedy!! How can I change my diet and help it go away?
So I’m sick of taking tums in mass quantities all the time. I know my heartburn usually comes from drinking too much coffee, and sometimes I am more successful at restraining myself.
I don’t like taking medications like Zantac or Pepcid…I am looking for a soothing drink that would help my throat/chest.
Also, what foods should I definitely avoid to reduce acid reflux?

Per Dr. Fuhrman’s books, Eat to Live and Eat for Health:

Make vegetables the main dish of lunch and dinner and eat primarily fruit for breakfast. In all cases eat all you can and all you want to except limit starch to one serving a day [oatmeal, whole wheat pasta or bread, potatoes, whole grain or wild rice, etc.]. Eat at least 50% raw fruits and vegetables and most of the more nutrient dense selections like dark green lettuce, romaine, Swiss chard, spinach, etc. Remember: THE SALAD IS THE MAIN DISH. For maximum effectiveness eliminate all animal foods. Don’t eat anything that is processed or that contains additives or oils of any kind. Don’t drink fruit juice – eat the whole fruit instead
IT’S ALL ABOUT BEING HEALTHY.
Please read the books. YOU NEED THE FULL DETAILS.
i got an idea.. stop eating processed foods.
that simple.
My son drinks a level teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water. Says it gives almost instant relief, and it’s cheap.
I had really bad heartburn when I was pregnant and I tried all the over the counter remedies and they just made me sick. The only thing that would relieve it was to sip slowly on a small glass of milk ( and milk is not a favourite drink of mine).
Foods that I tried to avoid were anything with tomatoes in them eg pasta sauces, fatty meats like sausages and for some reason lemonade was one of the worst.
Hope this helps, I know how painful it is!!! Good Luck
limit fatty greasy foods, limit caffeine… try drinking more water.. elevate your bed slightly when you sleep… and don’t eat heavy meals late at night and don’t lie down after eating either….
Hello. If you know your heartburn comes from drinking to much coffee, and you can’t control yourself,, maybe you should try switching to decaf. My grandmother used to take 1 tsp of baking soda and put it in about a half a glass of water, and she swore by it. She had a hyadal hernia and she had AR really bad. And it tastes about like an Alka Seltzer. Some things that may sooth your stomach are, pineapple, banana’s, and believe it or not a tbsp of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water with a tbsp of honey. And if I were you, I would go to the doctor and talk to him about this. I don’t mean to scare you, but when I was in my 30′s I had heart burn and acid reflux all the time. I had a massive heart attack when I was 37. And my doctors told me that heart burn is a warning sign. So just to be on the safe side,, why don’t you make an appt to go see your doctor and ask him about this. It won’t hurt and could very well save your life. Don’t take any chances. Please go get checked out. My prayers will be with you. I hope this helped.
Actually, might be VERY hard to believe but heartburn can be caused by low stomach acid. Try some HCL (hydrochloric acid) tablets and see how you go. There is A LOT of info on this.
“However, supplementing with hydrochloric acid (HCl), frequently works wonders. Most people initially feel reluctant to take hydrochloric acid since the common wisdom is that heartburn is the result of excessive gastric acid. In fact, heartburn and peptic ulcers are not correlated with excessive acid. It is more often that a lack of HCl causes food to sit in the stomach for extended periods of time, leading to poor digestion and more surges of stomach contents up the esophagus.”
“Heartburn, a burning sensation in the chest caused by the regurgitation of bile through the stomach into the lower esophagus, is a frequent symptom of low gastric acid. The traditional approach of treating heartburn is to suppress gastric acid by taking antacids or alkalizers. This approach is the opposite of what should often be done, and in many cases only worsens the problem by suppressing gastric acidity when it is needed and promoting it (rebound phenomenon) when it is unnecessary. Jonathan Wright, MD, states, In 24 years of nutritionally oriented practice, Ive worked with thousands of individuals whove found the cause of their heartburn and indigestion to be low stomach acidity. In nearly all of these folks, symptoms have been relieved and digestion improved when theyve taken supplemental hydrochloric acid and pepsin capsules”
try taking 1tbs of apple cider vinegar and mix it with 1/2 cup of water that does the trick for a lot of people. if you have chronic heartburn ad more apple cider vinegar to the mix and do it a couple times a day.
it doesn’t taste great i’m not gonna lie but it does the trick
if you have mild heartburn sometimes just eating a few slices of apple after meals and before you go to bed will do the trick
