I have acid reflux and its been about 2 months will this ever go away or will I have it forever?
I think that the acid reflux is caused by a hiatal hernia.
thanks for all the helpfull answers I went to the emergency room last night with really bad pains and they said that it looks like I have an ulcer. Are these are to get rid of? They also said I have to have a scope done. Is this painful what do they do.

Acid reflux, over time can cause esophageal cancer. Go to your M.D. and get a med. Chewing your food better also helps alleviate the reflux.
I strongly suspect you do not have acid reflux, but rather Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This is common in people with recurrent acid reflux problems.
The diagnosis for this is to have what is called an Upper GI series. Basically they take a scope and look at the current condition. This is important to do so that not only you know the extent of the current damage, but also give you a baseline for the future to look at.
As far as treatment, it would appear you should be on a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) to reduce the stomach acid amounts.
Finally, if you are lacking insurance, or are unable to afford a doctor, then I would recommend you start using Prilosec OTC, which you can get at your drug store. In about 2 to 3 days of using it, you should see your symptoms go away.
Good Luck and I Hope this Helps…
I was told by my doc that acid reflux is something that I will have for the rest of my life. the best thing to do is go and get it checked out.. like the person above said, if you don’t get it under control, the scaring caused by the acid can develop into espphogal cancer.
I have Acid reflux as well, and like yours its caused by a hital hernia. I didn’t find out about it until I was in Trackmy freshman year of Hihschool. I can tell you that running does aggrevate it…..my doctors said I would probally have it for the rest of my life And the bad thing abot having ARD (Acid REflux Disease) is causes frequent ulcers, if you don’t watch your diet, and etc. I take Tums, I was on a medication called Pro-something, but that took a long time for it to take effect. Ways to help manage it are don’t over eat, especiall at dinner time, try to stay away from drinking large amounts of cafeine (guilty), take Tums, don’t eat really spicy foods if you do then take tums, elevate the head of your bed at night. And I was a told by my doctor that something abut the scarring can cause Ensophagal cancer…………
modify your diet and eating habits
eliminate caffeine
eliminate carbonated drinks
don’t lay down for at least 45 minutes after eating
don’t exercise for at least 1 hour after eating
don’t take any aspirin or Alleve for pain
sip water through out the day to keep the esophagus free of acid
don’t drink acidic juices
watch your fat content in your food
watch out for spicy foods
eat smaller meals – more frequently ( if needed)
ask your MD for samples of Nexium , prescription Priolsec ,,etc
get a Ultrasound
get a Upper GI series
Good Luck
You’re exactly right, a hiatal hernia. You will probably have it forever, unless you have surgery done to correct the hernia. But until then, please try this, have the head of your bed raised about a foot, this will keep the acid from coming into the esophagus. Don’t eat after 7:00 pm, but if you must, make it some milk and crackers. The medicine prescribed mostly for your condition is Nexium, but unless you or your parents have a good insurance drug prescription plan, Nexium is expensive. As long as you are up and about, the hernia shouldn’t bother you unless you eat some really spicy or acidic foods or drinks. You should probably make an appointment with a Gastrointestinal Doctor and have an endoscopy done to make sure the hernia is real. When lying down like when going to sleep, is when the acid will back up into the esophagus, so make that higher adjustment on the head of your bed. God luck to you young lady.
One of the best ways to deal with acid reflux disorder is by making lifestyle changes. The foods that you consume can have a real affect on your acid reflux symptoms. There are foods that you can incorporate into your diet to relieve acid reflux pain. One of the great remedies is a tea made from anise, peppermint, and lavender. The combination is soothing, reducing the acidic content of your stomach. The mixture can be made with a bit of honey to make it a bit tastier. Anise helps your digestion while peppermint calms heartburn and gas. Lavender is a soothing body aid that also reduces stomach acid.
Certain fruits also help with acid reflux because of enzymes that aid digestion. Try adding a papaya or a pineapple to each meal. Papaya helps aid in digestion and pineapple reduces inflammation, and the high enzyme content can help stop acid reflux. For people that don’t care for pineapple or papayas, chicory root is a great alternative. Boil it in water, allow it to cool, and drink it as a soothing tea.
Another way to ward off acid reflux symptoms is to eat more salad. Incorporating a salad into your daily meal plan is a great way to reduce the painful symptoms of acid reflux. Best of all, salads are healthy, containing nutrients your body needs to flourish.
