I was diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome. I also have acid reflux/stomach problems. Do you, if you are an aspie?
I’d like to know if other Apsies have stomach problems because I was reading a blog someone wrote and they are an aspie. And they say they have a lot of stomach problems. This made sense to me because I do, but I don’t know if a lot of other aspies have this too. I was just diagnosed today, but I have suspected I have had this for a while. I took Early Childhood Education and actually did get my teaching degree. I was able to pass all the courses, although my professors, cooperating teachers, and advisors all saw that I was having problems socially. After reading about Aspergers in one of the courses about special needs in children, I did suspect that I had this. I approached my professors about it, and although they couldn’t really diagnose me, they all suggested I get it checked out. Now they all tell me they did suspect I had this. But they couldn’t talk about it too much because it wasn’t their job, but they are very glad I did get it diagnosed. Now I don’t know if I will be able to be a teacher. I did pass the courses but so much of teaching has to do with being able to correspond with others. Other people find me rude sometimes, overly friendly sometimes, or hard to approach sometimes. I am hard to read, and it sets people on edge. They never quite know what to think about me, and I am immature or just “act weird”. At least now I know why, and that I was born with this. I can’t really help it. I’ve been having a lot of depression and anxiety, which comes with this. But I wonder if the acid reflux does too? If you know any aspies, do they complain about acid reflux or stomach hurting or such things? I have frequent headaches too.

I’m an Aspie with Bipolar. Luckily I really don’t have reflux problems, but I know it is not too uncommon. I do have a very loose GI system, and my Aspie son has the opposite problem. As for being a teacher, is it possible to switch over to Science or Math for middle or high school? In High School classes there is less direct and personal contact, and many Aspies do well in science and math.
