Medication for Acid Reflux/Gastroesophageal reflux disease?

   I think your best bet would be to call a pharmacist and ask what they recommend,they have a lot of knowledge about the over the counter medications.

   You can try an H2 blocker in the mean time (try Zantac 150mg or Pepcid AC). That will give you immediate relief.

   However, you could also try Prilosec OTC. This can take a few days to work. If you do go that route, make sure to take it right when you wake up with WATER only, and do not eat anything for at least ONE WHOLE HOUR. Omeprazole (the ingredient in Prilosec) works by inhibiting the proton pumps in your stomach lining, and by eating, your chief cells and parietal cells will excrete the chemicals to make HCl, thus preventing the Prilosec from working.

   If you want, you take take both of them at different times in the day. Take the Prilosec in the morning, and try the H2 blocker in the afternoon and/or before bed.

   Also, cut out anything with caffeine in it, as this stimulates the production of gastric juice.

   I would say take Zantac(Ranitidine) it is one of the safest and doesn’t have the side affects as Prilosec as it can cause very loose stools and cramping.
   Take 150mgs. once or twice a day,at least 12hrs. apart. Make sure you take one at least 30mins. before you eat your first meal of the day. You should ask your Pharmacist before taking any med. if you are on any other meds. some meds, say not to take antacids for2hrs.before or after taking other medications.
