Highly Acidic and Spciy food. They do have prescription medications for acid reflux, talk to your doctor about options.
It’s like heart burn, only a million times worse. You should not eat anything with acid in them, like tomotes and don’t eat ice cream.
Really she should avoid acidic and spicy foods. They also have medications that keep that under control such as nexium. If she really loves tomatoes then I suggest that you get her on medication so she can still enjoy tomato based foods without it hurting her.
Natural tomatoes are okay. Condensed tomatoes, like tomato paste, are a no no. Also stay away from soda, spicy foods, citrus (like orange juice). There is actually a whole list of foods that agrevate the symptoms, and foods that keep the acids calm.
Most effective of all is to stay upright for 3 hours after your last meal. This provents the acid from coming up the esphogus, burning it… which causes the sternum pain.
Try to avoid acids in food like oranges, tomatoes (also includes juice and sauce)
Avoid Spicy foods
Honestly, I have it and sometimes it doesn’t matter what you do or don’t eat. I can just drink water and get heartburn…
I don’t know if your against taking medicine or if you were prescribed another one but, I take prilosec OTC, you don;t need a prescription for it and it works wonders…you take a pill every day for 2 weeks and you feel better for months.
Go buy some Prilosec. It worked really well for me. Also, don’t eat within 2 hours of going to bed. Sometime your stomach just porduces too much acid – doesn’t really matter what you eat, but acidy foods can make it worse. Also, losing weight helps.
MY sister had this, what happens is during the night your stomach acid is basically burped up into your mouth, so in the mornign you usually have a sore troat. If you eat an apple before bed it is suppost to help. A common side effect of Acid Reflex is burping. I hope this helped you, good luck!
Tomatoes can help acid reflux- the squishy slimey part of the fruit can help heal the esophogus. However, if tomatoes are a really big trigger, you should avoid them at all costs.
IBS and acid reflux have some very common rules about what not to eat:
chocolate
caffine (coffee, soft drinks, etc)
spicy foods
fried and/or greasy foods
anything that triggers symptoms
Peppermint tea can offer some great relief from IBS symptoms, and I highly recommend it.
Acid reflux disease is easily treated medically with drugs like Nexxium and Protonix. Relief and control should be almost immediate. Acid reflux disease can be a mis-diagnosis unless an endoscopic procedure has been done. A gastroenterologist/endoscopist should be involved. If, at 89, she has the symptoms, it’s probably worth getting an accurate diagnosis.
I am skeptical because any MD qualified to make this diagnosis would surely prescribe the cure – it’s so easy to do.
It’s not something you have to live with or diet around – it just takes a pill a day.
I dont really have the time to explain… But go to the store and ask for ALOE VERA JUICE.
Seriously, I had 5 ulcers, acid reflux and various other digestive issues. Now Im absolutely fine.
There are a couple different kinds of aloe juice but theyre all benificial. There is even a sweetened one from korea that tastes amazing.
Give her a teaspoon of baking soda in a quarter cup of water, this will help neutralize the acid. I don’t use tums or rolaids any more and my heart burn goes away in a few seconds.
See her doctor and get her on Nexium.
I have acid reflux, and it works just fine. <}:-})
I also have acid reflux and IBS. Avoiding tomatoes is a good idea they have to much acid. I avoid fried or greasy foods and milk. Avoiding meals before bedtime will also help with nighttime heartburn. Drinking water with lemon juice helps me when the acid reflux flairs up, the acid in the lemon counteracts the acid in your stomach.
