Question about acid reflux in a 4 week old?

My 4 week old is on a acid reducer and it seems to make her spit up even more then she was before she started taking it. Its called AXID. Has anyone else had children on this and it cause the same problem? Should I have her changed to a different reflux medicine and does anyone have any suggestions of what kinds work really well? Thanks!

We didn’t have any luck with medications but did great with the chiropractor. I know it sounds strange but after a couple visits we had a different baby and stopped all meds.
I honestly think you should speak to your childs doctor and maybe get a second opinion if you don’t like the meds he already gave her.

Change formulas and meds.
My 15 month old son is on Axid and it’s great for him. It makes him burp – especially during the 30 minutes between giving it to him and letting him eat, which may be part of your daughter’s issues… Make sure you mention it to the dr. at your next visit!
My ped. put us on the same thing…what it ended up being was intolerance to the formula.. Both of my boys (they are 4 years apart) were on Nutramigen….we called it liquid gold, as to the expense of the formula. The Nutramigen worked wonders!! They were different babies! No more med’s, gas drops, etc.,
It is expensive, however, WIC, will cover it if your ped. tells them too.
My son is on Ranitadine for his reflux and it seems to help him. If she doesn’t seem unhappy though it may be doing it’s job. Does she cry when she spits? They say a “happy spitter” needs no further intervention but if she seems really uncomfortable while spitting or any other times then perhaps the doc can try her on something else. I was told even though he’s on meds he can and probably will be a “spitter” until he’s about a year old. The meds just make it less uncomfortable for him.

okay i have heard about this many times and there is one thing i know that could help the child out. most people are skeptical about this, but kangen water should do the trick. its basically water that is ionized and it turns the molecules into H20+. what it does is that it cleans the acid from the body and makes your body alkaline. ur probably thinking how will this help… well it turns out that many people who have had acid reflux and have drank this water, never had to take medication again. this water came from japan and i like to think its mircale water. lol

my son now 7 months has been on zantac since he was about 4 weeks old it really helped him out, i hardly have to use it any more. Also try adding some cereal to her bedtime bottle just a little just enough to thicken it up. i used avent bottles and they make a special nipple for thicker liquids its a number 3
i would call baby’s doc….acid reducers do just that…they don’t control the spit up; could possibly be a side effect?
my dd is on zantac, it doesn’t have a lot of side effects; there may be a reason the doc chose axid…maybe not, if not, maybe ask about zantac liquid….i think it is used for it more frequently than axid in infants….hth
I would keep her on the adic reflux meds and possibly switch her to an A.R. formula (if she is formula fed). It has a little added rice in the formula to thicken it a bit and make it easier for baby to hold down without spitting up.
I would recommend that you change your doctor immediately! He is pathetically indoctrinated by the pharmacutical industry and can’t think for himself!
Frankly it is outrageous what they are doing to people but to push medication onto babies using the parents’ fears for their babies is horrible.
Acid reducer is really bad for adults I cannot even want to think about what it does to children. Stomach acid or hydrochloric acid (HCl), is vital to health. It has been proven that supplementing with hydrochloric acid (HCl) reduces or eliminates many diseases and that too llittle of it is one of the causes for many diseases. (Maybe tha’s why they push antacids onto people as the lack of stomach acid eventually causes many diseases and then they can make even more money)
HCL is needed for digestion, absorption and disinfecting many of the bacteria in the stomach.
Contrary to what the drug companies want you to think people with acid reflux have TOO LITTLE ACID INSTEAD OF TOO MUCH.
Stop the acid reducer – think about it babies have been spitting up and burping after eating since the beginning of time. Babies where always patted on the back to burp – it’s NATURAL.
Babies need to start producing acid for digestion because they did not need it in the womb where they relied on the nutrients via the umbilical chord. At birth they had to start manufacturing their own acid to digest real food and sometimes they have not enough of it this cause gaz and colic and they spit up. If you start giving it acid reducer you are realy impeding the bodies natural process!
Find a doctor who is also into natural health or a older doctor as your doctor is way too indoctrinated by the pharmaceutical reps.
I am not kidding go to a health food store ask for a doctor who is also knowledgeable about natural health or go to any other doctor.
Also it would be a good idea to go see a chiropractor as many babies are injured during birth from being pulled out and just one gentle massage and/or adjustment will ease your baby much more than any pill. Chiropractors can recommend you to a good doctor. My son and my nephew have both been treated by a chiropractor since young. My chiropractor has 7 of her own that she routenily adjust whenever they get sick. My chiropractor recognized thay my son had whopping cough when the doctors tried to tell me he had asthma and a subsequent blood test proved her right (he did have immunization shots against it but I guess they don’t always work).
I am in the holistic health field and although I am not a nutritionist I have enough knowledge and experience to advise you to stop the acid reflux medication for your baby NOW!
just be careful because they said seth had acid reflux but he didn’t. dint be afraid to get a second opinion. love ya
