Question by iFear: I want to drink alcohol, but I have acid reflux.. what can I do?
I’m not here to hear that I shouldn’t be drinking, or that I should just abstain from alcohol because it would be the best for me and that I should find other things to do.

Here’s my story:

I’m in college and I want to be able to go to parties and play drinking games and drink beer with my friends. However, after one or two beers, I start to feel it in my stomach. I currently take 30mg of Prevacid every morning, but that doesn’t help with the alcohol at night.

I’ve never tried drinking more than a bit of vodka, so I don’t know if that has the same effect on me.

Is there anything that people think I can do to help so I can go out and party with my friends?

All help is greatly appreciated, thank you

Best answer:

Answer by PUMPKIN POWER
I find beer is worse than mixed drinks for that. Just bring a pre-mixed jug of your favorite drink – that is what I always did.

Question by yo: acid reflux(GERD) and alcohol?
Ok so I have had a bad experience with alcohol about a year ago in the morning..aka a bad hangover. I get really bad acid reflux everytime I eat usually 5-10 min after, but I can eat and still eat everything such as pizza, burgers, etc…My question is whenever I have alcohol I get this feeling like nausea in my stomach but I do not if its related to the reflux or just a mental game because of how I got sick the last time. Do you think its just a mental thing or what?

Best answer:

Answer by elgüero
Alcohol can definitely set off reflux.
One test: does a shot of tequila get you worse than beer?

Try taking some Prevacid or similar drug at least a half hour before your first drink (no eating or drinking in between) and see if it is any better.

I was wondering if I drink 1 beer everyday, I will increase my tolerance or my taste in beer? Right now I really hate beer, but I really want to increase my tolerance. Also does acid reflux have anything to do with it? Because I have that right now. Thanks in advance!
Well I kinda have to get used to the taste of beer.. and I am ONLY drinking 1 beer a day, do you think that will work? Increasing my tolerance and ability to take beer on?

Ever since I started drinking I’ve noticed that I get this burn in my stomach. I don’t get it from beer or champagne but I get it from any other drink. It can be wine, vodka, rum, whiskey, mixed drinks, anything except beer and champagne. It normally comes when I have my second shot or drink.

Its a deep burn in my stomach. It kinda feels like a combination of pressure and acid. It almost feels as if I’ve downed acid and it’s just sitting in my stomach. I’ve been told that it’s from not eating before I drink, but I do eat. I’ve eaten entire meals before drinking and it doesn’t help. It lasts for about fifteen to thirty minutes and it hurts. I’ve ended up doubled over in pain before from it. The only thing that I’ve found that helps is if I eat graham crackers when I start feeling the burn and if I stop drinking. If I continue to drink after it goes away then I have to continue to eat graham crackers or the burn will come back. Most of the time I end up breathing out heavily from my mouth as if I can almost breathe it out but it doesn’t help.

I have no idea what it is. I’ve been told that it’s a burn from carbonation, but I’ve gotten it from un-carbonated drinks. I’ve been told it’s acid reflux, but I don’t think it is since I’ve taken tums and other antacids while I have the burn and it doesn’t help (even an excessive amount of antacids). I’m also a smoker, but I get it whether or not I smoke while drinking. I even got the burn before I started smoking.

What is it? I’ve only ever met one other person who had the same problem and she doesn’t know what it is either.
Also, I don’t believe it’s an ulcer, since I can drink liters of pop/soda and never feel the burn. It’s only with alcohol.
I do, also, sometimes get the same feeling when I do not get enough sleep. Even six hours of sleep gives me the same feeling. I have noticed that I do tend to get the pain more often in the morning if I drink pop/soda the night before.
Also, I don’t drink a lot. It’s hardly twice a month at most. On the flipside, I have had times where I’ve drank quite a lot over weeks and the feeling never got better. Like I’ve never “gotten used” to it.

Recent evidence suggests that drinking coffee and alcohol probably does not cause acid reflux. In other words, if you don’t already have acid reflux or heartburn, coffee and alcohol will not induce these conditions.

However — as many people who suffer from heartburn know — coffee and alcohol can have an adverse effect on their digestive system.

Just one cup of coffee or glass of wine can be the catalyst for hours of acid reflux and heartburn. Fortunately, there is a way to safely treat these conditions before they happen, so that coffee and alcohol can be consumed without discomfort or harm from reflux. Prelief is an absolutely safe (the ingredients have long been considered safe by the FDA) product that can be taken just before consuming these drinks, rendering these drinks acid-free. Check out the link below for more info.

If you’re suffering from bouts of acid reflux and heartburn because of coffee and alcohol, or you don’t want to avoid these drinks, try Prelief. It’s a harmless acid reducer that’s affordable — especially when compared to antacids and other remedies, which many people avoid for health reasons.

The market is full of remedies for acid reflux. Most are effective at relieving the burning. Some — known as proton pump inhibitors (e.g., Prilosec) — completely shut down the acid pumps in the stomach. Proton-pump inhibitors are often expensive, and long-term effects of using them is unknown.

The most gentle and effective way to stop food-induced acid reflux is to either stop consuming coffee and other trigger foods, or find a way to reduce the acid in these foods. Prelief does this, rendering your coffee and alcohol drinks safe again.

Soren Michaels is a coffee and wine lover who can finally enjoy those beverages again.

About a year ago I got a virus which left something behind when it went away. At first I had most of the signs of something like acid reflux but i dont think i have ever had heartburn in my life. For months I had problems sleeping and lying down and gradually those problems have gone away. It is only if I have alcohol that the problems start. I am fine sitting there drinking alcohol whether it be one pint or 4 pints and I feel fine afterwards if I dont go straight to bed and let the alcohol wear off. But as soon as I goto bed, the next day I feel absolutly dreadful, My upper stomach feels tight and bloated all day and then goes after the next night of sleep. For ages now ive had no idea whats going on. I understand that stopping alcohol would benefit me and I am planning to stop in the new year but I am going on holiday 2moro and will be drinking a bit of alcohol as new years eve is coming. I only drink alcohol about once a week and I rarely drink more than 4 pints so I am not a heavy drinker though all these problems started at university where my alcohol intake was far greater. Anyone have any suggestions? And if you are going to say ‘stop drinking’ then don’t bother writing anything because I already know it. I just want to be able to drink for this week and then I am going to stop completely!

I work in a cardiology office as a RN, and one of the nexium pharmaceutical reps told me that nexium, or equivants such as protonix, prilosec or prilosec OTC, or aciphex (proton pump inhibitor based drugs used for heart burn or acid reflux disease, can decrease hangovers in the am, when taken the night before and in the am when waking up. I discovered that nexium or eqivalent works even to decrease the negative side effects of alcohol with one drink too many. Has anyone ever noted this before and if so, how does it work??? Would love to hear from people if this has worked for them and better if they know why. Prilosec OTC worked for me in the past as well, and without prescription.

Treat Colds

Simple changes in your everyday habits can have a tremendous impact on heartburn relief. Understanding the cause of heartburn will allow you to understand how simple heartburn relief can be.

Jeff Martin – certified nutritionist and former heartburn sufferer teaches you his acid reflux freedom step by step success system jam-packed with a valuable information on how to naturally and permanently eliminate your heartburn from the ROOT and achieve LASTING freedom from digestive disorders.

Click Here Now To Learn How To End Heartburn For Good >>

Heartburn is not considered as life-threatening but the strength of the pain may make it seem otherwise. The worst scenario is experiencing night time heartburn a combination of severe pain and absence of sleep.

Because there are different kinds and causes of heartburn there are also many heartburn remedies. By understanding the type of heartburn you are suffering from it will make it easier to find a heartburn remedy that is long lasting for you and treats the heartburn before it starts. The heartburn cure is ultimately what your goal should be!

Indigestion reflux and heartburn are very common symptoms. Most people treat them by taking antacid medications. This is a mistake. Drugs do not cure the problem they only provide a temporary symptomatic relief. That is why most patients take them daily for many years. There are natural ways to deal with the problem and to solve it once and for all.

Digestive problems are difficult to diagnose and even more difficult to adequately treat. There are many more home remedies and herbs and it may take trying several or combinations of them to find what works best for you.

Alright let’s summarize – in report #1 we discussed the functions of the Gastrointestinal System and how it plays a part in heartburn. In report #2 we further investigated the relationship of digestion to heartburn symptoms and a few things you can do to avoid it. In this report we will talk about antacids and why you should not be taking them for chronic heartburn – so let’s get right to it.

If you have IBS and traditional treatments haven’t relieved your symptoms don’t give up hope. There are many lifestyle changes along with natural remedies that have given my patients a new lease on life. How is that possible? Let’s first take a look at what IBS is.

I’ve tried eating bread and other absorbants before as well as drinking other drinks with alcohol. Please help me I hate being the only not drinking. Don’t tell me to just not drink.

I’ve had acid reflux since I was 9. I am now 17 and I occasionally drink 5 or 6 beers at a party usually once or twice a month. I understand I shouldn’t be drinking because I’m too young and because I have acid reflux but I would like to be able to party with my friends once a month. Drinking alcohol once a month won’t kill me. I’ve tried taking a zantac before it helps a little bit but not enough. I heard a mixture of baking soda and water before drinking could help but I haven’t tried it. If anyone has any ideas please help. I don’t feel the NEED to drink I just enjoy drinking and hanging out with friends but my acid reflux usually stops me. I usually have to either go puke or I feel like crap the whole night. (If you’re going to tell me to not drink without offering any advice don’t even bother posting.)

I’ve gotten crazy drunk before off of vodka as well and I have much less heartburn from mixed drinks. I can’t be allergic to beer because I’ve easily drank 7-8 beers in a night without getting sick. Typically though I’ll drink 2 beers, feel a lot of heartburn and puke.
