I work in a cardiology office as a RN, and one of the nexium pharmaceutical reps told me that nexium, or equivants such as protonix, prilosec or prilosec OTC, or aciphex (proton pump inhibitor based drugs used for heart burn or acid reflux disease, can decrease hangovers in the am, when taken the night before and in the am when waking up. I discovered that nexium or eqivalent works even to decrease the negative side effects of alcohol with one drink too many. Has anyone ever noted this before and if so, how does it work??? Would love to hear from people if this has worked for them and better if they know why. Prilosec OTC worked for me in the past as well, and without prescription.

Whenever I drink alcohol I can feel it burning in my stomach (at least in the beginning). It’s a mild burn, but it’s rather annoying. And it does not feel like an acid reflux thing. I was just wondering if anyone had any information about this or if this happens to you too.
It happens with any %. I’ve had those little Smirnoff bottles do it to me too.

Don’t tell me not to because I know I shouldn’t. I only drink on occasion at the big parties but I get sick every time I try. I take 2 Zantac’s before i drink and I still feel sick and usually have to go puke it up. Should I take one before and then another midway through? I’ve tried eating bread and other absorbants before as well as drinking other drinks with alcohol. Please help me I hate being the only not drinking. Don’t tell me to just not drink. That’s not helpful.

I’ve had acid reflux since I was 9. I am now 17 and I occasionally drink 5 or 6 beers at a party usually once or twice a month. I understand I shouldn’t be drinking because I’m too young and because I have acid reflux but I would like to be able to party with my friends once a month. Drinking alcohol once a month won’t kill me. I’ve tried taking a zantac before it helps a little bit but not enough. I heard a mixture of baking soda and water before drinking could help but I haven’t tried it. If anyone has any ideas please help. I don’t feel the NEED to drink I just enjoy drinking and hanging out with friends but my acid reflux usually stops me. I usually have to either go puke or I feel like crap the whole night. (If you’re going to tell me to not drink without offering any advice don’t even bother posting.)
I’ve gotten crazy drunk before off of vodka as well and I have much less heartburn from mixed drinks. I can’t be allergic to beer because I’ve easily drank 7-8 beers in a night without getting sick. Typically though I’ll drink 2 beers, feel a lot of heartburn and puke.

I have had acid reflux for 2 weeks and I am now taking Prilosec.
What kind of alcohol will aggravate my acid reflux the least?
Please no answers saying “you shouldnt drink”. I know I shouldn’t. It’s new years and I don’t care.
