Best answer:

Answer by Seeker of truth
First off be weary of needless medical diagnosis, there are a lot of doctors who like to diagnose “conditions and diseases” as a means of pushing medications for personal financial gain that only create more problems than they alleviate. The medical industry can be a very twisted business. I say this bc “acid reflux” is a fancy way of saying you have colicy baby and making parents feel as if they need to shove harmful drugs down their childrens throats. Colic will pass, try a new formula made esp for easing colic and a new bottle that does the same. Try not to give your child any drugs if its not necessary.

Question by Erick: Help! 7 Weeks and Dr states Baby has reflux and change formula.?
Our boy was doing good on Enfamil new born. He was drinking 3-4 oz per feeding; when we went to the Dr office for the our child 1 month check up. She asked us? how was everything going…. So we told her exactly what we have seen in a matter of a month. Which was? At times the baby gets fuzzy and that sometimes he arcs his back after feeding . And automatically? She said! Acid reflux. Ok! So we roll with it and we started on his medication she prescribe to us (nizatidine) and also told us to bring in to the office 3 Poppy diapers. Which we did… And when she called us with the results she stated that she found traces of blood in his poop that means that he allergic to the cow protein which she states that is totally normal. So not only? the Dr give us meds for his acid reflux for our child she also made us change his formula to Enfamil Lipil Nutramigen with Enflora.

4 Days in, and the baby was allot more fussy and was crying like if something was killing him and was only drinking 2 ½ oz no more. It wasn’t your normal crying it was something totally different so we knew something was wrong. It mostly happen when he was trying to take a poop and the way he cries it sounds like it was burning him. This all started when we started to give him the formula she advise to put him on. So we had to make a decision and we went to Similac Sensitive because we did not want to feed him anymore of the formula the Dr order us to put him in.

When we did speak with the Dr about the situation she completely just said to take him of that Enfamil and put him on Similac Expert Care Alimentum. ummm! I am no Dr but isn’t the Enfamil Lipil Nutramigen the same thing as Similac Expert Care Alimentum.. Why would I put him on something that is going to do and be the same thing.. So we as parents decided to make a decision and go with Similac Sensitive and it has only been a day so we are trying to see what results we get from it.

We just think the Dr is not making the right decision. We are just trying to see if putting on the formula we chose is ok with our baby. we just think that Dr is really quick in Prescribing medication without even asking us 1 question about conditions or get information for us.

Any advice would help ?

Question by sc2008: How shd I introduce formula to baby?
My 4 month old baby has been breastfed for the most part. We tried introducing foods but his tummy isnt taking it too well yet. So we stopped immediately. My milk supply seems to be reducing as compared to before … and so I am thinking of supplementing with formula. My baby may have milk allergy. He used to fuss a lot when he was a newborn. Per the pediatrician I have put him on Prevacid for his acid reflux and cut out milk ( not diary products .. I still take yoghurt and butter ) in case he has milk allergy. We tried Soy formula ( Similac ). He hated it ! We then tried Enfamil Gentlease… he hates that too ! Am worried about what I shd feed him if my milk dries out before he is 6 months. Also after 6 months, he still needs milk in his diet. Please advice as to how I can get my son to start drinking formula. I plan to continue to breastfed ( I pump twice a day and feed him the pumped milk ).. but sometimes I’m not able to pump much especially after he has fed.
The reason I think I am not producing enough at times is when my baby cries even after feeding and seems to want more. He comes to my breast, tries to suck and then pulls away and cries. This is after he has fed for over 10-15 mins. He has about 4 wet diapers per day.

Best answer:

Answer by iamhis0
Are you able to nurse without pumping? Depending on the pump too much unnecessarily can compromise your supply. Is there are reason that your think your supply is diminishing? Remember that a pump is not as efficient as baby at taking out the milk. If you are able(not working) start feeding directly from the breast on demand. Introducing formula will only decrease your supply more ad you are telling your body that less milk is necessary when you supplement those feeds.
If you really think you supply is diminishing, contact a lactation consultant and find ways to increase your supply, not supplement with formula.

Does your little one have AR? What meds did your MD give them? What are some ways to comfort her? I have completely changed my diet as directed, but she still gets upset. Sometimes if I lay her flat in the pack n play she cries and cries until I sit her in a recline position. Is this reflux pain? Does your baby have a lot of drool too?
She has been diagnosed and does take Zantac twice a day. I was just curious how other AR babies were doing.

Our doctor prescribed him with Ranitidine (RT), he not only spits out the medicine every time I gave him but also vomits out the milk. I’m thinking to mix the medication with milk ( I breastfeed), I’m wondering if the medication would work the same. I’m also looking for good advice on how to care for a baby with acid reflux. It hurts me to see him throwing up but nothing comes out, I’m afraid to even feed him knowing he’ll vomit later on. Thank you for your input.

My baby is almost 5 months old and has been diagnosed with Acid Reflux. He’s exclusively breast fed, and after trying lots of different things we had to start him on Zantac because he is refusing to eat very much (he will only take about 2-2.5 oz is my guess each feeding). We have tried expressed milk in a bottle, and formula…all with the same result – refusal. The doctor started him on Zantac last week and it’s only been 5 days he’s been taking the medication but he is still refusing to eat and we have to top him up with expressed milk after every feeding using a syringe.

I am not looking to be judged on giving my baby medicine, you would too your child was not eating enough and gaining weight well. I am looking to find other people that had similiar experiences and how long it took until their baby began to breastfeed (or drink formula normally again).

Thanks
