Easily Avoidable Acid Reflux Causes
Article by Shelly Bray
In most cases, acid reflux is easily preventable. A great deal of acid reflux factors can be controlled through lifestyle changes and mild medication. Dealing with this issue is easier to do when you understand what is causing it. To find out what your specific causes are, it is best to visit your doctor and have them do a physical. Your doctor will look at your physical fitness and ask about your lifestyle and together you will identify which acid reflux causes are making this disorder happen to you. Here is a look at some of the usual causes.
Eating the wrong foods is the most common cause of acid reflux. When it is caused by the wrong foods it is called heartburn, which is generally temporary. If you get heartburn on a regular basis, you need to take a serious look at your food choices. Do you eat large amounts of spicy food? Are you eating chocolate often? Do you eat foods that contain lots of garlic? Foods that contain tomato as an ingredient can also cause heartburn. Avoiding these common ingredients is not as difficult as it may sound. Cutting chocolate out of your diet may not be fun but it’s bound to be better than dealing with heartburn.
Question by : Why do people keep saying acid reflux causes “heart”burn? I feel the burn just two inches above my navel.?
I keep hearing people say that “acid reflux causes a burning sensation in the esophagus” but I feel the “burn” two inches above my belly button, about an inch and a half above my belly button. So how come whenever I go to a website about acid reflux (which I have been diagnosed with after an endoscopy), I see pictures of people frowning in pain while putting their hand over their heart, or near the middle of their rib cage?
I was diagnosed with acid reflux, so shouldn’t I feel be burn in my esophagus and not in the pit of my belly where I believe my stomach is?
Biggest Acid Reflux Causes And Problems
Article by Ralph J. Smith
Acid Reflux is Also Called Heartburn or GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease)A lot of people have acid reflux periodically, and these people can easily find some medications at the local drugstore to minimize the pain from the condition. Those who suffer often from this condition could have a serious problem that should be treated by expert medical professionals. Below are a few of the most notable acid reflux causes Anyone who eats a large amount of acidic foods can have mild and temporary acid reflux. This is particularly true when bending over, lifting, or laying down after eating a large meal high in acidic and fatty, foods. Persistent Acid Reflux, however, may be due to various conditions, including abnormal biologic or structural Some studies suggest that most people with acid reflux symptoms such as hoarseness, chronic cough, or the feeling of having a lump in the throat have certain abnormalities in the esophagus. Such abnormalities may be present in 73% of patients who had atypical symptoms.Motility Abnormalities Problems in spontaneous muscle action (peristalsis) in the esophagus commonly occur with acid reflux, although it is not clear if such occurrences are a cause or result of long-term effects of acid reflux.Abnormal nerve or muscle function may contribute to acid reflux causes Studies show that over half of acid reflux patients have abnormal nerve or muscle function in the stomach. These abnormalities cause impaired motility, which is the inability of muscles to act instinctively. The stomach muscles do not contract normally, which causes delays in stomach emptying, increasing the risk for acid back up.Hiatal Hernia The hiatus is a small hole in the diaphragm where the esophagus goes through and into the stomach. It usually fits very securely, but it may weaken and enlarge. When this happens, part of the stomach muscles may jut into it producing a condition called hiatal hernia. It is very common, occurring in over half of people over 60 years old, and is rarely serious. Until recently it was believed that the majority of cases of persistent acid reflux were caused by a hiatal hernia. Hiatal hernia may impair the LES muscle function (see below). Studies have failed to confirm this evidence, that it is a ordinary cause of acid reflux, although its presence may increase the symptoms in patients with both conditions.A Malfunction of the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES) MusclesA band of muscle tissue called the (LES) is responsible for closing and opening the lower end of the esophagus and is essential for maintaining a pressure barrier against contents from the stomach. It is a complex area of smooth muscles and various hormones. If it becomes weak and loses tone, the LES cannot close up completely after food empties into the stomach. In such cases, acid from the stomach backs up into the esophagus. Some dietary products, drugs, and nervous system issues can weaken it and impair its function.
