If you suffer from acid reflux disease, then getting a diet program started can seem challenging, considering the number of foods that are restricted due to acid reflux symptoms. However, as long as you arm yourself with the right tools and information, your diet should be much more rewarding than you may first expect.

Your first goal should be to discover what foods you can eat. These should be foods that are not only ‘waistline friendly’, but they should also be foods you can eat without experiencing symptoms of acid reflux disease. Though everybody has their own ‘trigger’ foods to which their symptoms react, the following foods are generally considered to be suitable on their own or as ingredients in acid reflux disease diet recipes:

A Diet For Acid Reflux Prevention

When people start to exhibit symptoms of acid reflux disease (GERD), the first thing they usually do is buy some type of antacid, either a chewable tablet or some type of liquid. While this method is not harmful if used once in a while, the continuous use of antacids can do a lot more harm than you can imagine.

when one consumes antacids, the acid reflux problem is often compounded because the antacids tend to slow down the digestive process and, in turn, cause the problem to linger. Not only that but the use of antacids causes the stomach to release even more acids with the next meal. This is because the acid sensors are distorted by the antacid which caused the acid/base balance in the stomach to be unbalanced. With this, the stomach thinks it needs to release more acids in order to get the digestion accomplished.

Most of the time it is mistaken for heartburn or an upset stomach when in fact it is something much worse. Left untreated it can become quite painful and cause physical damage to the esophagus and throat.

What Is A Good Diet For Acid Reflux?

I’d like to eat pasta, but I can’t have pasta sauce with it, so what can I put on it that isn’t fattening or acidic? I like rice, but I can’t use anything spicy on it. I’ve been eating chicken a lot, but it’s getting boring, especially because I’m so limited with what I can eat on it. I need some ideas, please, on what I can eat since I’m going to be on this low-fat, no grease, no tomato-based products diet for a while. I’m also having a hard time saying no to cola and coffee in the morning since I need something to get me going- any ideas? Thanks!

Acid Reflux is caused mainly because of the eating habits. Wrong eating habits and wrong food intake are the main causes of the heart burn, which is the most common symptom of Acid Reflux. So to prevent all these and to maintain a good health one need to take a proper planned healthy meal/ diet. We should prevent all the food stuff which weakens the esophagus tube to prevent acid reflux.

As the leaves start to turn to fall colors and in the evenings we are tempted to sit by a warm fire, hearty food comes to mind. The fall and winter bring a host of root vegetables, squashes, greens and fruit from which hearty meals can be easily made. The challenge is to keep these dishes healthy that means keeping them as alkaline as possible.

When attempting to reverse the symptoms of acid reflux, diet is probably the most important consideration. That old cliché, “You are what you eat”, has never been more true. If you eat food and drink beverages which are acidic in nature, then it follows, that you will be acidic in nature, as well. If you eat a diet which mainly consists of so called “convenience food”, you don’t stand a chance of being alkaline.
