Acid reflux symptoms include persistent heartburn and stomach acid regurgitation. It is possible to have acid reflux without heartburn. In this case, you would experience pain in your chest, a hoarse throat in the morning or have trouble swallowing. You may feel that there is food stuck in your throat or you feel that you are choking and your throat is tight. Acid reflux can also can bad breath and a dry cough.
When your stomach acid splashes up from the stomach into the esophagus, you get the burning pain associated with acid reflux. The esophagus is the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach. Stomach acid helps to digest the food you eat. The acid in your stomach is hydrochloric acid, which helps to prevent bacteria from growing in your stomach and intestines. The stomach lining prevents the hydrochloric acid from damaging your stomach.

Even though it can happen to anyone, not all people are aware of Acid Reflux symptoms, which are associated with the disease that is medically recognized as the Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Some may even take for granted the pains that they feel that are actually related to this disease, but then dismiss them as normal and temporary, or even totally neglect them. This is very dangerous because GERD is a sickness that should not be underestimated, and a complete understanding of it is much needed.
Acid reflux happens when the liquid material that are supposed to churn in our stomach and go down as it is absorbed by our body come up to the esophagus and damage its lining. This is caused by a number of factors, but those things primarily happen because the lower and upper esophageal sphincters that are supposed to regulate the passageway of the digestive tract loosen up and permit the opposite flow of the gastric juices. Internal inflammation and chest pain are just some of the effects of this abnormality, so immediate response to such cases are necessary.

For many people controlling the aggravating and sometimes dangerous symptoms of this disease is a function of changing their eating habits. But just which acid reflux food do you need to avoid to prevent the damage it can cause? Healthy foods are certainly a consideration for those who suffer from GERD but there are many nutritious foods that can cause symptoms to appear and even worsen.
For the sufferer of acid reflux finding that balance between optimum nutrition and avoiding the foods that cause discomfort is very important. More often then not lifestyle changes must be made in conjunction with dietary alterations to be certain that the risk of symptoms and complications are kept to a minimum.

If you have acid reflux symptoms, it is best to visit the doctor for a proper diagnosis. Your doctor would have to check how serious your condition is by ordering a series of tests. He can then prescribe the appropriate treatment, using the results from these tests.
When you first see the doctor, he will ask you to describe if you experience a burning, warmth, heat or pain just behind the breastbone. This acid reflux symptom is commonly known as the heartburn.

If you have noticed that you feel great before eating a meal but then suffer from a painful burning sensation in the throat or chest just below or behind the breastbone, after you have finished dining, you could be suffering from either heartburn or acid reflux symptoms.
Heartburn is one of the main symptoms of acid reflux and is usually associated with poor digestion. After eating foods that have high acidic content, heartburn sufferers may notice a burning sensation or pressure in the upper chest. The pain sometimes radiates to your neck or throat. Heartburn occurs when stomach acid comes back into the lower throat region, which happens because the lower oesophageal sphincter muscle or LES is not functioning, as it should. The LES is like a small one-way valve that lets food go into the stomach but prevents the hydrochloric acid produced by your stomach from coming back out into the oesophagus.

Acid reflux symptoms in children and infants can be hard to detect. The lack of clear communication is a major stumbling block. Frequently children cannot even tell you where it hurts or give you good clues to what is happening to them. Infants of course can only complain and cry which increases stress levels and urgency. This is especially true for those children suffering from symptoms of acid reflux or gastric esophageal reflux (GER) also known as plain gastric reflux. According to experts the most common acid reflux symptoms in children include frequent or chronic vomiting, persistent cough chest pain, wet burps and regurgitating and reswallowing. Unfortunately some of these symptoms are also common with healthy children and infants.
Additional symptoms of acid reflux in children include bad breath, constant crying (colic), picky eating, sore throat, ear infections, nighttime sleep problems, gagging and choking, drooling, chronic running nose and many more. Any parent will identify with many of these listed symptoms. Every child has one or more of these symptoms before he or she reaches the terrible twos. So what is a father or mother to do since so many of these symptoms are caused by something or many things that have nothing to do with acid reflux symptoms in children? The easiest answer is to consult with your pediatrician or family physician. Children frequently do out grow acid reflux disorders. However, ignoring acid reflux symptoms in children can lead to a more serious condition called GERD or gastro esophageal reflux disease. Basically you cannot afford to take a chance and need to consult with a medical professional that is familiar with acid reflux symptoms in children.
