What are some good natural remedies for acid reflux?

Just curious. A relative has it, and would like to avoid all the pharma stuff.

I dont know about the best “natural” remedy. But Tums are what work best for me. Try the new smooth chews. They dont have a nasty chalky taste. Also try Gavascon. It’s a little less appetizing but also works very well!
Fresh OR dried papaya works very well. You can lso get them in chewable tabs that taste almost as good as the dried. It really does work after about 10 mins.

over the counter prilosec, a glass of milk, baking soda and water, rolaids, tums, and some people say peppermints help even though on a lot of medical websites it says it can actually exacerbate the symptoms. the best way is to find the “trigger foods” that cause the worst symptoms and and avoid them.
Believe it or not, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. It burns like hell on the way down, but two minutes later yer feeling fine.
I reluctantly tried it and it worked. i think doctors and pharmaceutical companies want to keep you sick so you keep on buying what they are selling
Sources of natural fiber in your daily diet. An apple is a good one.

I am not sure, but bread may help to absorb the excess acid. Please read on, though, that is not all you can or should do…
First, be sure you don’t overeat. We need to know when to eat. A lady I went to said your hunger-satiation range is one to ten. Learn to eat when your hunger is no lower than 3-4 and eat only until you feel a fullness level of 6-7. Don’t wait until you’re starved and don’t stuff yourself. To do this until your brain realizes the levels, try to eat a little bit — I’d say 2 tablespoons worth of something — every three to four hours, or even every two hours. When you sit down to a meal, eat very slowly, chewing carefully. This isn’t because you are wolfing down your food now, but because it takes time for the nerves that register “full” in your tummy to get the full message to your brain, and for the brain to realize your tummy is actually full enough. If you go away from a meal and feel stuffed in 10 to 20 minutes, you may have eaten too quickly and definitely overate. Overfilling the tummy almost always caused some acid reflux — heartburn as many people know it — for those of us who suffer from it.
Second, I also cut back, but didn’t eliminate, fats when I had this problem. If you put oil, a fat, in water, it floats. Same is true in the stomache.
If you have a hyetal hernia, you may have to take the pharma stuff for a time. If you don’t get this under control, surgery may be required. I got mine under control, using meds, then learning the other steps to keep it under control.
I hope this helped a little. I paid handsomely for some of this info, the rest is from experience. Acid reflux isn’t fun and can be quite serious. You may have to take pharmacuticles for a time to avoid injuring your esophagus and/or allowing it time to heal. Like me, after a time, you can quit the prescription meds and get along fine. But protect your esophagus at all costs. Letting this go on can cause some really nasty problems, like esophageal cancer from the constant irritation.

Be careful of the milk recommendations. It does help in some cases, but in most cases, the milk curdles when it hits all the acid in our stomach, and then you vomit. The only natural thing I have ever tried, and works quite well is papaya. I have only had it in tablet form. You can buy it in any natural food store. The enzymes in papaya neutralize acid almost immediately.

Eat in smaller portions avoiding alcohol, coffee, and very spicy or oily food as much as you can. Not nice, but necessary when having to much pain.
Take your dinner at least two ours before going to bed, and do your best to eat slowly.
Besides the usual medication, there goes a simple recipe that really helps to feel less pain in your stomach, esophagus, etc besides that people suffering from acid reflux, gastric/gastroduodenal ulcer take as a part of their initial diet in the hospitals.
Half skim milk – 1,5 %-, 1 liter
2 or 3 eggs
Maizena, 2 big spoons solved in cold milk
Sugar
Vanilla flavor
So, you reheat the milk in a pot adding some sugar according to your taste – not much, please- and the mixed eggs while still just warm.
Keep on stirring
Once is about to boil, turn the fire off and add the diluted Maizena. If you want a thicker preparation, use some more, but it has to be between thin and soft, but to see the texture it is necessary to wait till it is less hot. Keep on stirring.
If you like, add some Vanilla flavor drops.
Divide the preparation in portions and let it rest until room temperature.
It works, and it will save you lots of anti-acids but never replaces other medication such as Ranitidine, Omeprazol and others that are meant to “block” the excessive acid release in your stomach.
I use apple cider vinegar with a large glass of water as a natural remedy for many things that cause me to be sick. I NEVER use any acidic products without the appropriate liquids to go with it. Straight vinegar will cut right through your intestines and cause severe stress to your body. IT WILL SCREW YOU UP. By the way, I use the white vinegar to wash my windows at home and on my car, even to clean my rims. You should consult a doctor first, then you might try alternative medicines. Let the doctor prescribe something that will be custom made for you. If you have no allergies, or have identifed what allergies you have, you are already on the right track. A simple remedy is :- half teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda [ordinary kitchen Bicarb] in third of glass of warm milk, stir well. Works for me!
Pepto Bismol, Coke Classic, one or the other but not both together. Also two to three teaspoons of baking soda in water.
No mention of the age of your relative.. if over 40 would indicate reduced acid production and the recommendation of another entrant here for vinegar is a bit radical. Too much acidity..You may have less discomfort by eating a dill pickle or sipping some of the pickle juice. The results are very rapid and long lasting. There is a cooling effect felt all the way to the stomach.
Should you not attain relief from this approach, there is something a bit more serious involved.
Try chewing sun dried coconut[copra] pieces, it helped me to reduce acidosis
No natural, I had surgery and i am totaly fine.
an ounce of water,half ounce of vinegar in a glass with teaspoon of baking soda.Stir it and drink while fizzing.Hope it works.
